We can’t leave out this legendary drink, which provides refreshing coolness during the sweltering summer heat and boosts the immune system no matter the season!

History of Lemonade

Lemonade has traveled a long road to reach its current form. Its history dates back to the lemon juice trade in Egypt in the early 12th century. Historical records indicate that in the following centuries, lemon juice was mixed with honey and dates in the same region. But what is someone really asking for when they go to a restaurant and inquire, “Homemade lemonade?”

Ingredients for Lemonade Recipe

  • 3 large or 4 medium sized lemons
  • 7-8 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1.5 liters of water

How to Make Lemonade

For the homemade lemonade recipe, first, let’s grate the lemon peels. When grating, be careful not to grate too deep into the white part, as it can add bitterness to the lemonade.

Next, add granulated sugar to the grated lemon peels. Crush the mixture with a spatula or your hands for a few minutes to release the lemon flavor into the sugar. You can adjust the amount of sugar to your taste.

After sufficiently crushing the sugar and lemon peels, place a few fresh mint leaves and lemon slices in a jug or bowl. Add the crushed sugar and peels to the mixture.

Finally, squeeze the grated lemons into the jug or bowl. Add cold water and stir until the sugar dissolves.

Let the lemonade sit in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Then, strain the lemonade through a fine strainer.

Our homemade lemonade, made without orange, is now ready to serve. Optionally, you can serve it with ice cubes, fresh mint, and lemon slices. Enjoy!
